Dr. Yogesh Somvanshi, Orthopedic Surgeon at Pulse Hospital Pune, recently treated a middle-aged lady with decreased power in her right hand and finger deformity, stemming from a childhood elbow injury. Upon examination, she exhibited cubitus valgus at the elbow, clawing of the hand, decreased sensation in the little finger, atrophy of the interossei, and reduced grip strength. An X-ray revealed a malunited lateral epicondyle fracture with a valgus deformity. Her history, clinical examination, and radiology confirmed a diagnosis of tardy ulnar nerve palsy, further verified by an NCV study. Dr. Somvanshi performed a complete decompression of the cubital tunnel, ulnar nerve neurolysis, and anterior ulnar nerve transposition. Remarkably, the patient experienced immediate relief from pain and improved sensation and power on the first postoperative day.
